Unsere Tipps wie du eine Vorhangschiene leicht montieren kannst, mit Schritt für Schritt-Anleitung.

Curtains not only beautify rooms but also add a special touch to your living space. If you've already chosen the perfect curtains, you might now be facing the seemingly daunting task of installing the necessary curtain tracks.

But don't worry, in this article we will not only show you what types of curtain tracks there are, but also how you can easily mount a curtain track yourself step by step and what support we can offer you free of charge.

Choosing the perfect curtain track

Choosing the perfect curtain track is a crucial step before you even begin installation. The selection criteria that play a key role here are:

Window shape and size:
Determining the shape and size of your windows are naturally the first and most important selection criteria before you can install your curtain tracks. For example, with special window shapes like bay windows or arches, you might need curved tracks to ensure a perfect fit for the curtains.

Number of runs required:
The question of the number of tracks is closely linked to the intended use. Single-track curtain rails offer different arrangement options than double-track curtain rails . For example, if you want to neatly slide all your curtains to one side, you need a rail with as many tracks as there are curtains.

Curtain type:
Another aspect you should consider well before installing the curtain track is your desired curtain type, as different curtain types place different demands on a track. For example, to ensure your sliding curtains move silently, you can install a curtain track with an internal runner.

What types of curtain tracks are there?

Before we delve into the details of the installation, let's first take a look at the different types of curtain tracks. Depending on your needs, interior design style, and window type, there's a wide range of curtain tracks available. Among the most commonly used types are aluminum curtain tracks and curtain tracks with a wooden gallery rail . While metal tracks are a popular choice for modern interiors, wooden tracks are particularly well-suited for more traditional settings.

In addition to a variety of other types of curtain tracks, there are also, among others:

  • Eyelet curtain tracks: Perfect for eyelet curtains and usually with extendable brackets.
  • Extra long rails: Suitable for large windows or patio doors
  • Niche window rods: For hanging curtain tracks in narrow spaces
  • Curved rails: For architectural elements such as bay windows, arches or gable windows

Each of these rail types has its own advantages and characteristics, and therefore a significant influence on your purchasing decision.

Step 1: Measuring correctly is essential
An important first step in installing curtain tracks is accurately measuring the desired track width and curtain height. These precise measurements lay the foundation. If you simply want to replace your existing track, just measure the total length of the old rod without the end caps. This will give you the length of the new rod you need.

If you want to install a new curtain track, measure according to the two following diagrams both the track width, from where to where your curtains should hang, and the curtain height measured from the bottom edge of the curtain track to the desired end.

Step 2: Materials and tools
Make sure you have all the necessary materials and tools on hand before you start mounting the curtain tracks. You will generally need:

  • the curtain tracks and associated brackets
  • a tape measure
(or a laser measuring device )
  • a pencil
  • a spirit level
  • a drill
  • Drill and wall plugs (very important: suitable for the wall type)
  • screws
  • a screwdriver
  • and of course the curtains you want to hang

Step 3: Setting markers
Use the tape measure and pencil to mark the positions for the brackets on the wall. Make sure the marks are symmetrical on both sides of the window so the track will be level. Use the spirit level to ensure the marks are at the same height.

Step 4: Drill the holes
Now for the important part! Drill the necessary holes in the wall or ceiling and attach the curtain tracks using the included screws and wall plugs. Make sure you use the correct drill bit size for your wall plugs and that it's suitable for the type of wall you're using. If you're unsure whether there are electrical wires or pipes behind the wall, use a stud finder as a precaution.

Step 5: Attach the brackets
Attach the curtain track brackets to the wall by inserting the screws through the holes in the brackets into the wall plugs and tightening them with a screwdriver or power drill. Double-check that the brackets are securely and firmly attached.

Step 6: Mount the curtain tracks
Now slide the curtain tracks into the brackets. There are usually notches at the ends of the track that snap into the brackets. Also check that the tracks are secure and straight and don't have much play.

Step 7: Hang the curtains
Once the tracks are mounted, you can easily hang your curtains. Depending on the type of curtains, you can do this in different ways, for example by hooking the curtains into the track or by attaching rings to the curtains, which are then slid onto the track.

Step 8: Check and adjust if necessary.
Finally, check that the curtain tracks are mounted straight and securely, and that the curtains slide and close easily. If you find that adjustments are necessary, correct the position of the curtain tracks accordingly.
